Icon Widget
In this video we'll discuss all things icons! Specifically the icon section widget, and the icon widget. Icons can be used to list things or simply add a visual element to your content.
Step-by-Step Guide
Adding an Icon Section
Step 1: Start With Your Page:
- Begin on the page you're designing or editing in Churchly. Ensure you're in the editing mode where you can add widgets.
Step 2: Add an Icon Section:
- Look for the widget addition area on your platform. Find and select the 'Icons Section' widget. Drag and drop it to your desired location on the page, indicated by a blue line.
Step 3: Choose an Icon:
- Once the icon section is added, you can select an icon for it. Churchly provides a variety of Font Awesome icons. For example, choose a heart icon for a health-related section.
Editing Icon Section Content
Step 1: Adjust Icon and Text Layout:
- Decide on the layout of your icon and text. You can place the icon to the left with the text on the right or have the icon above with text below.
Step 2: Edit the Text:
- Click on the title and description text within the icon section to customize it. For example, rename the title and edit the description to match your content.
Step 3: Change Icon Style:
- If desired, adjust the icon's color, background color, and add a shadow for depth. Use the platform's customization options to set the icon's color, shadow opacity, and position. You can also select the amount of padding around the icon using the slider.
Utilizing Icons for Effective Communication
Step 1: Add Standalone Icons:
- Beyond icon sections, you may want to use standalone icons on your page. Simply add an icon widget, choose your icon, and customize its size and color.
Step 2: Direct Use Cases:
- Icons can serve various purposes, such as navigational aids, decorative elements, or to emphasize content. Use them wisely to enhance your page's user experience.
Step 3: Copy and Reuse Styles:
- If satisfied with a particular icon or section style, copy it and use it elsewhere on your page for consistency. Adjust text and icons each time to fit the new context.
Tips for Effective Icon Use
- Spacing and Alignment: Ensure there’s adequate space around icons and text for clarity. Use spacers to maintain visual balance and alignment.
- Color Contrast: Choose icon colors that contrast well with the background for visibility.
Purposeful Placement: Place icons where they’ll guide user interaction or emphasize critical information.
